What is Genshin Impact?

Genshin Impact is basically a Chinese action role playing game developed by miHoYo and published in 2020. The game features an action based battle system in an animated open world using character switching and elemental magic. On completing the challenges, the players unlock new quests and progress towards increasing their adventure ranking. This free-to-play game is monetized through gacha mechanics, allowing the players to obtain new weapons, characters, and other resources. 

Genshin Impact happens in the fantasy world of Teyvat. Teyvat is home to seven distinct nations, ruled by different gods, and is tied to a unique element. The story revolves around the Traveler, who has traveled with their twin sibling across countless worlds before separating in Teyvat. Then the Traveler travels in search of the lost sibling; however, it gets involved in the national affairs of Teyvat. 

Genshin Impact was released for Microsoft Windows, Android, iOs, and PlayStation 4 in September 2020. It was released for PlayStation 5 in April 2021 and may soon be released on Nintendo Switch. The critics have well received the game for its mechanics. However, it has been criticized by a few for its simple endgame monetization model.

Tower of Fantasy is releasing in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, and Germany, after experiencing a successful launch in China. The game encourages exploration to survive on this alien planet. The game follows an anime-science-fiction hybrid narrative and has post apocalyptic influence. It is set on a planet known as Aida and hundreds of years in the future. The game features around considering the homeland uninhabitable for humankind, as all the planet’s resources have been sucked dry. To enable humanity to flourish, you must learn to survive on this alien planet. 

The game has been accessible in China for more than a year and is now looking for a release in the global market. However, the release date of Tower of Fantasy is still unknown. The game has a range of characters to choose from, and each has its own approach to combat and unique weapons. One can also team up with friends to avoid traveling to mysterious lands alone.

In combat, certain weapon types also come with their own unique movement skills, like grappling hooks used by the players to bring themselves closer to their enemies. Tower of Fantasy gives players plenty of movement options, while the players prefer moving on foot when it comes to getting from point A to B.

Genshin Impact offers light-hearted and casual PvP events, like the Windtrace Hide and Seek event. Tower of Fantasy brings forth and embraces Player vs. Player competition. The players can use their weapons and skills against each other; the game offers 1v1 or 2v2 modes with daily missions and rewards for completing matches. Also, players can challenge each other for a battle while playing in the open world. Players can also go in for impromptu duels for a direct thrilling experience and other forms of open world PvP.

One of the most interesting aspects etched to Tower of Fantasy’s gameplay design compared to Genshin Impact; is that even the smallest bits of content in Genshin, saved for a few time-limited events, can be finished while playing solo. Tower of Fantasy encourages cooperative play, featuring certain challenges that simply cannot be completed alone. Players eventually have to team up and work together to obtain powerful rewards and defeat these challenges, meaning those who plan to travel the world may need a friend or two.

Whilst Genshin Impact provides a single-player experience with an option for co-op gameplay, Tower of Fantasy aims for a solid multiplayer experience. However, Tower of Fantasy doesn’t fall into the category of being a full-fledged MMORPG, but it definitely embodies the energy of one since its gameplay encourages social interaction so much more than Genshin Impact does.

However, it is too early to predict whether or not Tower of Fantasy creates much of an impact on the global gaming market. There is a great possibility that the game will be able to gather a solid audience, and the two games could simply co-exist.
